Voodoo Revenge 6 luglio 2011

Centro Televisivo Universitario 28 giugno 2011

Museo Arte Gallarate 30 giugno 2011

ECO Personal Identity 4 luglio 2011

Pece (n. 2). Il terrore 5 luglio 2011
Quest’anno “Pece” viene pensata in formato digitale.

Poe in App
An iPad visual experience of Edgar Allan Poe 5 luglio 2011

Her rocambolesque auto-destructive attempts in Wile-E.-Coyote style will be absolutely vain and will involve an unaware boy linked to her. In this way, a romantic date will turn into a real disaster... Even if Voodoo Revenge is focused on very dark subjects, it is an ironic and funny short film aiming at amusing the audience with slapstick gags and cartoon atmospheres.

In a global panorama where imagine has become a real universal language (i.e. an interracial, international, and intercultural language), new young creative designers propose their projects. Actually, each thesis is an independent creative project through which the student shows his/her real innovative skills to himself/ herself, to the teachers, and to the external world. The thesis projects are organized in order to be grouped in different areas presenting different expression as well as distribution channels of their work. The Commercial and publishing photography (advertisement, still life, fashion, publishing, editorial) and the Artistic and Research Expression, i.e. the channel hosting images - and theses – are conceived to express the personal feeling and to share the personal perception with others through visual works using photography as expressive tool.

28th June 2011
CTU is the organization dealing with audio-visual and multimedia productions supporting and integrating the teaching methodology at the University of Milan. Moreover, it realizes radio and TV projects and productions on demand for other universities, cultural institutions, public corporations, and companies both in the audio-visual and in the eLearning areas. The objective of the thesis was to redefine its visual identity and to realize a series of communication tools in line with the global identity of the University. The complexity and the variety of the activities required to define and realize a very organized system of communication tools so that CTU could propose more successful “services” inside and outside the business world as well as the television, radio, and multimedia production market. After a first strategic research and definition step, the work groups defined three different identity and communication projects: the first one preserved some current elements, the second one was completely innovative, and the third one was more essential, however renewed in terms of structure and tools.

MAGA
Museo Arte Gallarate 30th June 2011
MAGA has always worked to organize exhibitions and activities aimed at showing authors and pathways that characterized our recent past and that interact with the subjects and the authors of the permanent collection. Moreover, MAGA activities involve young artists through the organization of conferences, meetings, general and didactic workshops addressed to a wide and different audience. The Education Department manages also publishing and communication projects such as the WOK magazine, catalogues, brochures, and didactic materials. This thesis project aims at dealing with the organization of the visual identity of MAGA (recently realized) and with the realization of the whole communication system. This system has a wide structure ranging from the traditional media to the digital tools, from the exhibition bills to the institutional merchandising and to those tools that each work group identified as strategic in order to promote the Museum activities.

ECO Personal Identity 4th July 2011
Indesit Company is one of the leader companies working in the household appliance market. A research carried out by Indesit shows that the application of electronics in the household appliances gave them a great potentiality. Even insignificant behaviors of the citizens can have great effects on the energy saving and on the reduction of harmful emissions on a large scale. Indesit is going to launch a series of household appliances linked to the web that are able to contribute to the consumption reduction, and to propose a series of useful services for the user and for the community based on the possibility to exchange information between the house and a central system of electronic data processing that can outline the behavior of the user and suggest him/her alternative ecological choices. The objective of the thesis is very ambitious: realizing a communication system that will change people’s behaviors in favor of the environment and the society.

Pece (no. 2). The terror 5th July 2011
This year “Pece” has been issued with a digital layout. But, what is “Pece”? It is a “magazine” linked to the Courmayeur Noir festival, a magazine-container that, this year, has decided to deal with Terror. What does contemporary “Terror” means? Is it like the classic Terror told by the Brother Grimm’s noir novels, or the one characterizing the classic horror and mystery novels? Terror has always been used in the society. During the French Revolution, it characterized the period in which heads fell under the guillotine. Before the French Revolution there was the Terror of the Inquisition period, and now there is the contemporary Terrorism. However, Terror has always been exploited by authorities, politics, and criminality. Therefore, it is not only a mood but also an effective tool to manipulate consciences.

Poe in App
An iPad visual experience of Edgar Allan Poe 5th July 2011
eBooks are completely changing the publishing and communication market. For the first time, illustrators can use tools that have never been involved in their expressive universe. The interaction between the elements and the user, the sound and the new kind of animation developed together with the ebooks give the possibility to create a revolutionary relationship between text, image, sound, and interaction in which the reader is the focus, and the new illustrator is its author. The thesis project Poe in App is based on these premises and it is aimed at observing a classic author by using the most innovative creative tools. Nine illustrators designed the visual and sound experience of nine classic tales by Edgar Alan Poe.

The wonderful fossil Cervus Elephus Acorononatus
7th July 2011
“… at first we saw its limbs and then the spinal column. I would have never imagined that behind those pieces there could be a whole fossil of a Deer with its head dated back almost 700,000 years ago.”
Timetable
An illustrated book aimed at telling children how the discovery of the beautiful deer occurred. Everything started from a neutral, uniform, pure area: a “white wall”. White is the beginning, i.e. the starting point, the basis on which it is possible to invent and realize your ideas, from which and in which it is possible “to create”, i.e. to bring forth something. White is the space in which you can slump, and then you can create and dream. White is open air, waiting, as well as the place of what is possible and impossible. The discovery, like creativity, comes from chance but also from passion, and it represents the hope that something bigger and more complete can be developed from a detail. Things come into the world, live, change, and settle, but they do not certainly die.

When a sign becomes a dream Personal projects - Childhood 7th July 2011
Nothing is what it is and everything is what it seems, what it appears. Everyone tries to communicate it towards the tools that he/she better knows and can manage in a more secure way. If you use a sign and colours, you have everything in your hands because the chances at your disposal are unlimited. Sometimes, the real becomes unreal or surreal or hyper-real. However, who cares? Probably, it is the only way to represent it and, therefore, to “communicate”. And right in that moment, the unrealistic becomes realistic: you will be able to communicate something that maybe does not exist or that maybe exists only in each person. Do not design, but “communicate”!

Who is Claudio Verna? What does being a painter and live only for art mean? This short documentary tries to re-propose the most important steps of the carrier of an artist who is well-known in Italy and abroad, and to understand his personal vision of Art. Verna tells how its passion for painting rose when he was a child, the beginning of his career at the end of the ‘50s, and the success from the ‘70s to date. At visual level, the documentary shows all the creation steps of one of Claudio Verna’s pictures, a conversation about art and life with his friends during a lunch, a walk with his dog, and some of his main works directly presented by artist.

White Box and beyond 15th June 2011
The work consists in a project pathway that looks into the world of the fridge for food preservation and considers it as a “white box” whose identity, uses, domestic scenarios, and family daily dynamics have to be reinvented. Over the last decades, its shapes, dimensions, and materials have not been radically changed. What changed, instead, was the technology employed that has evolved and has given it a higher performance aimed at reducing the power consumptions to a minimum. Considering this, the research focuses on all aspects (functional, aesthetic, performance, relational, poly-sensorial, perceptual) linked to the “Preservation” and assumes new product scenarios, new positions, and new functions of the White Box.

The mission of this thesis project is to move the interest from a logic focused on the production to a logic more focused on the concept of “production process” that connects the consumer (with his/her needs) with the producer (with his/her skills), and that is “told”, “realized” and “experienced” by the user. The final project objectives are divided into two specific research areas: one concerns the space design and aims at finding new concepts and new visions for the retail points of sale; the other one concerns the interior design that is responsible for the perception and involvement of the customer during the “travel” promoted and told.

The thesis is based on the concept of University Village, an event offering to nearly 2,000 young people coming from all over Italy the opportunity to gather and meet in prestigious locations, to share experiences, emotions and a lot of fun for a whole week long, and to live a unique brand experience premium. Heineken asked to design both the day and the evening/night activities as well as the areas dedicated to such activities by choosing between a summer or a winter subject. The thesis project is developed according to the TVS company strategy that aims at realizing a perfect mixture between the steadily changing consumption styles and the technological performances of the materials used. On the one hand, it was asked to develop a new concept for an entire set of kitchen tools able to meet the production characteristics of the company, and, on the other hand, to provide an integrated analysis of the contemporary and international trends linked to cooking. The objective is to imagine a line of “highly iconic” products, not just for the culinary cultures to which they are addressed, but also for the rest of the world. Urban Artists’ Hotel 22nd June 2011
The project concept analyses the relationship between mankind and art and invites the interior designer to dialogue and tackle with the artist in order to “design the box” containing not only the artistic work (i.e. the artwork), but also the word (i.e. the language and the artistic profile communicated) and the thought (i.e. the artist’s house). The wrapper becomes a “canvas” for the artistic expression as well as a catalyser and a creator of continuous stimuli that are filtered and understood by the surrounding area, by people, and by the continuous comparison with yourself in the “temporary” life dimension. The special nature of this place requires the concept design of three different “worlds” (before designing the concept of the spaces): an accommodation for the artists, a studio for the meeting, and a lab for the project ideas.

Contemporary Healthcare Hub 23rd June 2011
“Not only treating, but taking care of patients”: the hospital changes from a place for sickness to a place for the patient by underlining the therapeutic importance of a “friendly” environment in order to reduce the emotional stress. If it is true that people who go in hospital have needs linked to their health, it is also true that to easily reach their good health, they have to be able to interact with the hospital in the easiest and most pleasant way. Therefore, it is asked to develop a project for an architectonic/poly-sensorial system to make the pathways easier and the directions clearer, and, at the same time, a project concerning the inbetween spaces (i.e. all areas not dedicated to treatment), such as reception, relaxing, and entertainment areas by considering that the contemporary hospital is a real Hub.

PINKO Cafè _ Lounge Shop 24th June 2011
The proposed project subject rises from a careful and complete observation of the role, dynamics, and trends linked to the concept of “fashion shop”. A travel characterized by researches and continuous cross-elaborations about “what drives a person to purchase a garment nowadays” and how a “urban store” can really represent the current situation. According to this concept, it was decided to realize a new commercial formula, i.e. a urban area open to the most heterogeneous commercial flows that is focused on the style trends as well as on the “social” trends increasingly expressed by applied and integrated communication models previously far from the “shop”. The thesis project includes the definition of a traditional “Urban shop”, of a virtual fashion hub, and of a Pinko Cafè/Lounge.

Green out… design in 27th June 2011
Cascina Bollate (Bollate Farm) realizes a job placement pathway of a person “whose freedom is limited”. This takes place through the concept of transparency and “interaction” between the external world - i.e. the city that can enter the Farm - and who is isolated and can “look” out, and even “go out” by contributing, in this way, to life and to the social initiatives of the city through a “training on freedom” representing the gradual recovery of the person. By considering the auto-construction as the only possible way, it is proposed to design, on the one hand, a “Temporary display” including a temporary fitting-out of Cascina Bollate that has to be “ethically transparent” as well as functionally reconfigurable and itinerant, and, on the other hand, a “Urban outdoor set”, i.e. a complete “eco-social sustainable” urban furniture kit.

By taking for granted that safety is the main requirement, and by always complying with the laws concerning the assessment and the certification of the projects, the main considered issues are the following: the lightness, the perfect fit, the view width, the handiness of the visor and of the air intakes, and, in the end, the quality of finishing and of the materials used.

The course aims at training professionals in the marketing area. Students will be able to realize and interpret the analysis of the fashion field as a complex system resulting from the interaction of different factors. Moreover, they will be able to plan effective projects aimed at developing strategies that can introduce the fashion brand and product to the end user through traditional and innovative marketing tools and techniques that are used to position them on the market and to improve their identities. The objective of the thesis project includes the concept and the launch of a new Marketing initiative. The drawing up of the project will follow a systematic progressive development that will necessarily involve the use of the Marketing tools, knowledge, and skills learnt during the three-year course. Then, an action plan will be worked out from a research and analysis step focused on market, consumer, brand/product/service that will be followed by a project synthesis step including the development of a strategic marketing concept that considers the realization times, the resources, and the expected results, and that leads to the definition of a concrete final output.

In the 21st century, the media development is supported by the sudden increase of the interactive media. The global media industry is stagnant or in crisis but the videogames one is at the top. Probably, this is the main point: videogames represent a young media and a revolution not only for users but also for creators. The attention of the “best minds” is drawn by their innovative potential, by their cultural predominance, and by the difference and the creative energy represented by the videogame itself. Students involved in this thesis project carried out a research concerning the new types of this completely new media and defined its relationship with other media by studying the related behaviours and the opportunities for the next future.

The proliferation of TV contents on “on demand” and streaming platforms convinced an entire generation to pull the plug out. A new post-television category of user that ignores the program schedule concept and, therefore, uses the television contents “just in time” on distributed platforms, is spreading.
